How to Choose the Right RFID Wristband for a Festival?
Are you organising a festival and looking to integrate RFID technology to manage access, cashless payments or participant identification? With the wide variety of RFID wristbands available on the market, it can be difficult to know which one to choose. In this complete guide, our team helps you make the right choice based on your needs and budget.
1. What type of RFID wristband for your festival?
There are three main families of RFID wristbands for festivals:
🎪 Disposable fabric or PVC RFID wristband
This is the most widely used solution for festivals. Lightweight, comfortable and cost-effective, it integrates an RFID chip into a secure single-use closure. Once fitted, it cannot be removed without being destroyed, guaranteeing the security of your event.
- Advantages: cost-effective, secure, customisable, comfortable
- Disadvantages: single use, not reusable
- Ideal for: music festivals, concerts, sporting events
- Price: from €0.75 excl. VAT per unit
💪 Reusable silicone RFID wristband
More robust and durable, the silicone RFID wristband is ideal for recurring or multi-day festivals. Waterproof and chlorine resistant, it can be collected at the end of the event and reused for the next edition.
- Advantages: reusable, waterproof, resistant, available in multiple colours
- Disadvantages: higher price, requires collection at end of event
- Ideal for: recurring festivals, water parks, sports clubs
- Price: from €0.87 excl. VAT per unit
🌿 Eco-friendly wooden RFID wristband
For festivals committed to an eco-responsible approach, the fabric wristband with natural wood tag is the ideal solution. It combines high-performance RFID technology with respect for the environment, reinforcing the sustainable image of your event.
- Advantages: eco-responsible, biodegradable, strong brand image
- Disadvantages: slightly higher price
- Ideal for: eco-conscious festivals, sustainable events
- Price: from €0.90 excl. VAT per unit
2. Which RFID chip to choose?
The choice of RFID chip depends mainly on your event management and cashless platform. Here are the main options:
MIFARE Classic 1K — the standard chip
This is the most widely used chip at festivals. Compatible with the vast majority of cashless and access control platforms, it offers a good value for money for standard events.
- Memory: 1 KB
- Frequency: HF 13.56 MHz
- Compatibility: Weezevent, Seatlab and most MIFARE systems
MIFARE Desfire EV3 — the secure chip
For large events where security is paramount, the Desfire EV3 offers advanced AES encryption that makes chip copying virtually impossible.
- Memory: up to 8 KB
- Frequency: HF 13.56 MHz
- Compatibility: high-end systems, large infrastructures
LF 125 kHz (TK4100) — the budget chip
Less commonly used for modern festivals, the 125 kHz low frequency chip remains compatible with older access control systems.
- Frequency: LF 125 kHz
- Compatibility: older access control systems
- Not recommended for cashless payments
3. How to estimate the quantity you need?
To estimate your RFID wristband order, take into account:
- The expected number of participants — allow a 10% margin
- The duration of the event — for a multi-day festival, one wristband per participant is sufficient
- The breakage rate — allow 2 to 5% for defective or lost wristbands
- Staff and volunteers — plan separate wristbands for your team
4. Questions to ask before ordering
- ✅ Which cashless or access control platform do you use?
- ✅ Which RFID chip is compatible with your system?
- ✅ Do you want to customise the wristbands with your logo?
- ✅ What is your budget per wristband?
- ✅ How far in advance of the event are you ordering?
- ✅ Do you need specific RFID encoding?
5. Delivery times to plan for
To avoid any last-minute surprises, here are the delivery times to expect:
- Standard wristbands (without customisation): delivery within 24-48h from our stock in France
- Customised wristbands (with logo): allow 7 to 15 working days depending on quantities
- Large quantities (+10,000 units): contact us for a personalised lead time
Our recommendation
For the vast majority of festivals, we recommend the disposable fabric RFID wristband with MIFARE 1K chip. It offers the best value for money, is compatible with the main cashless platforms and can be customised to reflect your event’s image.
